Well, the PittCon is coming around again in a month, so I figured i had better read these suckers so I can give Mack some sort of feedback and maybe pick up more if I dug them. I wasn't sure if these books were quite my bag, but as it turns out, I fuggin' LOVED them. The artwork speaks for itself, the characterisation was incredible, and it was really solid storytelling. I just got in the Dreams HC I won from ebay (10 bucks brand-spankin-new, wahoo!), and I will be adding Kabuki monthly to my pull-list starting this week. Keep on rockin' the Kabuki, Mack! And thanks!
Hey thanks for that!
I'm really glad you liked them.
And glad you are adding the new monthly to your pull.
I really appreciate it.

And good to see you are finding the other volumes.
I'll be at Pittsburgh con again this month with Andy Lee.
If you need any of the other volumes let me know and I'll throw in some prints or other stuff for free and make sure to give you a great deal on them.

Thanks a lot for reading!

Pittsburgh Comicon this month!
04-06-05, 03:22 AM

I'm going to be there set up with Andy Lee.
This show is really fun and has a bunch of great guests.

I'll also be doing some sketches and donating art for the auction to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation.

I'll have original art for sale from Daredevil, Echo, Kabuki, Scarab and more.
I'll have Kabuki hardcovers and paperpack volumes, back issues, a HUGE selection of 11 x 17 prints, T-shirts and more.

I plan to be there the entire show.
If you are there please stop by and say hi.
Introduce yourself from this board, and I'll hook you up.

Re: Mack in LA
04-06-05, 03:30 AM

Yeah I met her, and she talked about you and really appreciates you.
She was very nice.
Pretty cool how that works! She said you were very inspiration to her.

The French translations of my work are really cool. Especially the Kabuki stuff which is even more clever for them to translate. And they did reproduce my type styles all by themselves and very effectively and cleverly.

There are French Hardcover collections to all the Kabuki books except Scarab.
And the German translations are amazing like that too.
Very cool to see Akemi's handwriting in the other languages.

Re: Mack in LA

Yes!
If all goes well, I hope to.

Peter from Paradise comics is being a huge help with making that happen for me.

Vol 1 retails for about $20. It collects 7 books (and 2 of them are double sized issues). And If you pick it up, I'll throw in some other stuff too

I'm sure Oeming will be right around like last year as well.

Come by when you are there Saturday. I'll have all 6 volumes, all the new Marvel issues and anything Kabuki you need.

And with any Kabuki book you buy, I'll throw in some other sweet stuff and give you the hook ups.

Just introduce yourself from the board and remind me of your screenname.

Don't fight them. Love them!

I'll be there at my table the entire time, so it will be a pretty relaxed atmosphere and you can hang out at the table as long as you want.

No need to worry about a hurry or waiting, because I'm not just signing for an hour or two where you have to hurry up and get in a line and move on before the hour is up.

I'll be there the entire time, so everyone will be pretty relaxed at this show and plenty of room for anyone to hang out at the table as long as you want.

Thanks.
I think the photo you sent is a different girl.
It is amazing that there are so many different people with that tattoo on their back!
I have photos of a ton of different people with it.
I've seen the photo of the girl you sent.
And thanks.

I will be in Chicago. I'm doing all the Wizard shows this year.
I will have art at the shows. And you can also order it on line at davidmack.net.
Just send to the e-mail there any page that you are looking for. I'll let you know if it is still available and what the price is.

Best,
David

Scarab Panda to hit stores this month.
04-06-2005, 05:49 AM

If you haven't seen or heard of this yet check out davidmackguide.com.

It is the stitched bullet hole Panda stuffed animal from the Scarab story.

More photos from LA

I saw links to these posted on another messageboard.

I don't know if they were posted here yet.

And I saw some posted by a link to Dawn's live journal.
Are those here too?

Maybe I should send some of my own as well

Re: Finally a complete set of Kabuki Heroclix
04-07-05, 01:11 AM

Glad you have them all!

And let me know what you think the all the books when you get a chance to read them.

I'm so glad I did that Kabuki hero clix deal. I'm really amazed by all the people that told me they played the Kabuki hero clix and that introduced them to Kabuki, and they went to read the books based on liking the characters in the game.

Requesting Wizard World Hotel info...
04-07-05, 01:40 AM

Does anyone here have a complete list of the info (phone #/ address/ maybe even price listings) of the convention hotels for Wizard World Chicago?

You know the hotels right by the Rosemont convention center like the Hyatt, Sofitell, Ramada, and the others?

Thanks a bunch!

Re: WOW..this is so true...
04-07-2005, 02:29 AM

That's a snippet from an interview I did with a daily newspaper when I was in LA.

Glad you like it, though they didn't print the analogy in it's entiretly. Glad the essence still stood out for you.

Re: Dawn
04-07-05, 04:12 AM

Wow, you have an avatar of the girl I've recently begun dating!

This is a strange new experience for me.

I'm even more fascinated that her sister Kat is promoting the new issue of Maxim magazine with her in it.

I guess that's what sisters are for.

And I promise you she is even more lovely in person.

Also she just shot something else recently that you will soon see her in.
But it's a secret so I can't tell.

Re: Requesting Wizard World Hotel info...
04-07-05, 07:01 AM

Thanks man!

You were a huge help.
I took care of this.

In the past Wizard has taken care of the hotel for me, but I hadn't heard from them on this yet, and I wanted to reserve something just in case.

Plus, I always used to share my hotel room with Andy Lee, and I won't be doing that this time...

So it is good to make sure Andy has a place too.

Re: Requesting Wizard World Hotel info...
04-07-05, 07:04 AM

Also, I should say "Thanks, person!"
As I don't know from your name your gender.
So please make that clear to me

ANd thanks!

Re: Requesting Wizard World Hotel info...
04-07-05, 07:08 AM

Yay!
Thanks, ANGEL!
Happy to hear that!
And I do appreciate it. But that may not work this time, for the same reason that Andy and I aren't sharing.

And no it is not for our snoring. Andy had an operationa and he doesn't smore anymore.

But I tend to dance to much.

Anyway, FREE TIBET!

With the purches of any regular priced Tibet.

Serously though, FREE TIBET.

Re: Requesting Wizard World Hotel info...
04-07-05, 07:10 AM

Hey Tess!

Got your PMs and e-mail.
I'll get back to you on that asap!

Also, I'll retire the river dance with Millar. We'll have to do something brand new and spontaneous this time.

Re: Dawn...
04-08-2005, 02:52 AM

It was a delight to see you again too!
And Ami was a real amusement. I really appreciate her outgoing personality

I'll see you in SD. I'll be at a different booth this year. Not at the Image booths but sharing a booth at Beckett comics signing with Jeff Amano. And of course Kat Amano and Mandy Amano will be there too

I'll still have the big Kabuki banner on it, so you should be able to find it

Thanks for putting in the word for FROW.

You have one of the most unique Kabuki costumes that I've ever seen
The scars really do look real.

Re: Dawn...
04-08-2005, 03:51 AM

Oh is that where you got it?

Yeah, I've seen it.
I was surprised by how often I was mentioned on it.
And Kat and I have e-mailed the guy, who was actually very nice and accomodating in his response to us.

They called him on the radio when Mandy was being interview on KROQ. It was a funny bit of radio.

Like Goodman said, the blog has generated a lot of internation buzz, but it is not fake. It is the guy's real blog, not a Pepsi promotion.

And when Maxim was looking for Mandy to interview her for the magazine, they contacted the blog to find her. So the blog guy is responsible for hooking Maxim up with her.

I also saw someone posted links to Dawn's LA photos on it too.

And David Thornton told me that davidmackguide.com gets a lot of traffic from that blog cause the guy put a link to DMG on his blog as well as a link to Mandy's dad's comics.

It is a fascinating phenomenon.

Re: Kabuki German Portfolio
04-08-05, 05:26 AM

Well said!!!

Thanks for that. Great story too.

These [Kabuki German Portfolios] are incredible. they are limited to 990 made. I think in 1999. By Infinity Verlag. The premier German publishing house. They translated and published all the Kabuki books in German at the time.

There has not been a re-issue of this. Just the original 990. And at the time the RETAIL price was $120. So if you got it for less than that, you really lucked out.

I forget the size but these are like between 2 and 3 ft high. It comes in a red case with a beatiful woven texture and big Japanese characters that say Kabuki on the lid vertically.

It collects the 48 pages of the first Dreams paperback which is the TWO first painted comics I EVER did. The Kabuki color special, and Kabuki: Dreams of the Dead.
And besides those 2 stories, there are also like ten of the most iconic Kabuki covers as prints as well included as well.

And I think each one wieghs about ten pounds. Because I carried ten of them with me from Germany.

When the publisher first met me at the airptort and showed me this portfolio in the underground airport parking lot I was stunned. These are amazing.

And the brain child of Infinity Verlag Publisher Marius Kessler.

They must be pretty rare by now, so you may want to get them if you see it.

I know some retailers buy it and instead of selling it as a set, sell the 50 plus pages seperately for a fortune. Retailing at $120 this is the best deal I've seen on something this large and impressive.

You could easily sell a few of the prints seperately and recoup your expense.

And I love the conversation piece stories

Re: Kabuki German Portfolio

I'll be happy to sign it.

Good teamwork.

Re: Motor City Con
04-08-05, 10:57 AM

I did this con like 12 years in a row. It had some amazing glory days when Brian and I were just starting out. We used to drive to the con together every year and this show was always a fun one and full of mayhem.
We started going in 93 and used to also do the fall show as well.

I'm pretty sure Andy Lee will be there this year as well.

I would but I think My Bristol UK con plans interfere with it.

But go and say hi to Andy Lee for me.

I met Macmanyosi there last year.

Anyone here have the Terry Moore DVD? I just agreed to do one with the same co.
04-08-05, 11:01 AM

The Moore DVD has a really good and extensive interview with him. You learn of a lot more of Terry's facets.

And imagine my surprise to hear him mention Bendis and I in the interview!

Lots of good stuff in the DVD. I'm curious to hear how you reacted to it.
Did it deliver for you?
Was there something else you'd like to see in it?
Or what was your favorite part?

I just agreed to let the company come to my studio and make an in depth David Mack DVD for their next big release.

Suggestions, advice, etc are welcome.

Hey I love your blog/site!

I do have a few of these German portfolios left. I never bring them to cons because they are so big.

But I'll have dozens of 11x17 prints to choose from at all the cons I attend.

Re: Emerging Frank Miller scandal

Yeah we met in New York.

Hey Dana!
Long time no see!
You and I met in NY in 1993.

I was putting the Kabuki story together in in January 93 when I met you and you showed me your art at a con and we were going to do a Kabuki story together those many years ago.
Was good to see you a few times since then, and pretty cool that you are here.

I hope you are doing great.

Re: Dawn...
04-09-2005, 02:14 AM

I understand that the issue hits stores next Friday, April 15.
And that this issue is a special "Sin City" issue.
I think Brittany Murphy is on the regular cover, and I think Frank Miller is drawing a special version of another cover too.

And Mandy's interview has some stand out quotes about comics.

And yeah, pretty cool that the fansite about Mandy linked to your photos.
I like the photos you took of all of us together
Mandy will have her own professional site Mandyamano.com (you can check it now, there a sort of photo and coming soon thing there at the moment), and I think the full site should probably be up and running by the time the Maxim issue hits next week.

Looking forward to San Diego!
And it is great to see you on the board here.
Give my regards to my Kabuki readers at your live journal community.

Much better than I expected. And full of a well rounded peak at the context for the series and Terry's motivations for it, as well as his general ideas about his work and life.
Also the DVD is the first time I learned of Paradise, Too. Terry discusses it and what it is about.
