Tarot Card Project Plans and Production Update |
|
From David Mack: |
|
As you may know via the updates of my process on my Twitter account, I'm making a Tarot card set with Barron Storey and some other artists for 2010.
It will be a book, a card set, and a gallery exhibit in Europe.
I'm open to any considerations and personal views of what you look for in a Tarot cardset: Clarity, symbolism, new takes, integrations of early set symbols with later ones, etc... |
|
Mr. Mack later noted: |
|
I have 20 cards just about finished so far. They are designated between us so I'm not doing the entire set.
But I have the first one - The Magician, and some other choice cards. It's cool keeping with the symbology, but being limber in interpretation. |

Contents in Kabuki: Reflections HC, Art Update & More |
|
From David Mack: |
|
#1: Thanks for your 2 cents - I'll include all that in the mega-size Reflections art book hardcover. With new figures... paintings...
#2: Listening to Tom Waits music & interview on NPR while I paint on canvas. I'm loving this painting. Pics of paint stages to follow.
#3: The Alchemy is part Kabuki story, part autobiography, and part self-help book. It makes me believe that making art is possible ...
#4: Coffee, paint, canvas, music, cats, film commentary & bliss is happening
#5: Time=Accumulation of sequential events. Comics are perhaps a reasonable model for understanding nature of time.
#6: "You must lubricate reality". I just said this in conversation and I thought it perfectly reasonable
#7: I love life. It's full of mystery and plot twists.
#8: I am the Abominable Snowman's new haircut.
#9: Also... my children's book "The Shy Creatures" makes a GREAT holiday gift.
#10: A thanks to William Gibson for the Pixies playlist - perfect for my mood - and work tonight
#11: Don't forget to set your clocks five hours ahead as we enter the vortex |
Kabuki: Circle of Blood Review |
|
From Michael Vance's review of Kabuki: Circle of Blood: |
|
"Kabuki" is poetry in prose and art. As proof, Mack elevates the formula fighting in many American and Japanese comic books by writing most of the violence. By forcing readers to supply their own visuals, therefore personalizing the action, Mack's prose becomes interactive, seducing readers into intimacy with his story. |
