david looks great. with all his hard work and massive amount of stress he's getting, i'm glad it's not effecting his health.
Well thanks! That's good to hear!

Thanks all...

It's good to hear all of the different experiences each of you had first hearing of the book.

How I found Kabuki and David Mack
I actually found the toy first. Moore Creations had three Kabuki action figures out at the time (I don't know if this is still the case), and I found one at one of the video specialty shops like Software Ect. or Suncoast in the mall here. It looked really cool so I bought it and in the course of examining the back of the card, I discovered the web address for NohTV. I checked it out and decided the next time that I saw Kabuki at Borders I would buy it, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Re: Wizard World Philly?
SAT, 3/27/04, 12:11 a.m. - In Response To: Wizard World Philly? (Terry Lohmeyer)
Does anyone know if David or Andy will be at Wizard World in Philadelphia this May?

TIA!

Terry

Hi Terry,
It looks like I'm probably not going to Philly cause of all my Kabuki work and the other cons that I previously committed to.

I'm going to be at Pittsburgh. Are you going?
I hope to see you there!

NEXT Sat-Sun April 3&4!
SAT, 3/27/04, 12:14 a.m. - In Response To: David at the April Big Apple Con (Allan Rosenberg)

I will be there the entire time both days.
So will Anh Tran and Andy Lee. Anh will have her Tranimals.
I will have original art (DD, Echo, Kabuki, Scarab), prints, books, shirts and more.

I love NY! Hope to see you there!

Hey Guys and Gals: In case you didn't know David will be appearing at next week's (April 3 & 4) Big Apple Convention here in NYC. Please go to our website bigapplecon.con for information. Also appearing with David will be his good buddy Andy Lee, Carmine Infantino, Bill Sienkiewicz, Joe Simon, Peter Bagge and Dan Brereton.

Hope to see you there.

Yours

Re: My David Mack story
SAT, 3/27/04, 12:21 a.m. - In Response To: My David Mack story (Thudpucker)

I remember. I'm happy and surprised that you do!
That was 93. I was 20. It was my first Chicago con ever, and I've attended every year since.
Bendis and I met at that con too. He was also in that card set you mentioned.
The card set was called Comics Future Stars. His character Zora from Powers was in the set too. Our characters, and our names are the only characters and names from that set that I still recognize or see in the industry these 11 years later

Technically that was the first professionally printed/published Kabuki image (aside from my self-made prints and mini-comics).

Thanks for sticking around!
If you are in Chicago this year, stop by and introduce yourself!

Re: Flaxen
SUN, 3/28/04, 11:31 p.m. - In Response To: Flaxen (Thudpucker)
Yes, I read the trade paperback for Fire and enjoyed it. I've enoyed most of Bendis' work, particularly Alias.

I just looked around on the web and found the name of the comic I was thinking of (probably should have done that first before posting, sorry about that).

It was called Flaxen. Bendis both wrote it and did the art for it. The model it was based on is named Susie Owens, a blond woman who came to the convention dressed like her character.

He didn't write it, but Bendis penciled it and I inked it. He took photos of me and Susie at the Chicago con in 94 as we acted out some of the scenes he drew from. And it was published in 95.
Susie was at Chicago in 95 promoting it. She had been a centerfold in Playboy Magazine several times and has here own line of perfume called Child (used by Madonna, Gwenyth Paltrow, Jennifer anniston... - I saw her on the style channel recently, and Jane magazine, being interviewed about it .

I was dating her at the time. There are some of my photos and paintings of Susie in Reflections #2.

If you look in the Playboy 50yr anniversary coffee table book, you will also see her and the book we worked on

Ken Meyer Jr did the cover for it. He and I have been doing paintings for the Tori Amos charity calendar for 2004, 2005.

Bendis has a comic named "Fire"
Bendis was working on Fire when I met him at that con in 93. But I don't think it was published until after that con. Either late 93 or early 94.

The writer on it was James Hudnall.

I hope you can stop by

Congratulations on your article! I just recieved your lattest letter too.

I appreciate what you said here. I'm happy to hear it! This post is helpful to me as well. I'm going through some business changes myself. Thanks for reminding me of the things you said! You can't fear change. You just take it as it comes in your own way, and stay true to your own vision and integrity.

I'll probably print this in one of the next Kabuki letters collumns.
I have a few announcements to make soon. I'll keep everyone updated on this board.

NY is going to be fun!

Best,
David
