At first she classified me as a non-verbal because I never spoke. I preferred to write on paper squares that I folded into livelier shapes. She painstakingly unfolded them as if dissecting a new anthropological specimen.

Super Bowl commercial I heard about
Feb 06, 2005 8:52 pm

A guy I know said he saw clips from commercials that will be debuting during the Super Bowl today,
and said there is a Diet Pepsi commercial airing in which he recognized a close friend of mine acting in it.

He said he saw actress Mandy Fujiko Amano in the Diet Pepsi commercial, so I'm going to be on the look out for it just in case his info is accurate.

Some of you met her with me at the Dallas and Long Beach shows when I signed with her father Jeff Amano of Beckett comics.
And she was in some photos that people posted on this board and on davidmackguide.com.

Do you mean the woman that was more beatiful than beautiful at Dallas last november? Awesome

That was her!
The woman that was chaperoning me around to the party after the con.
The one Taki Soma called the most beautiful woman she had ever seen in her life.

There are some photos with the two of you picking me up!

I saw them on this board. And I think all those Dallas con photos are at davidmackguide.com too.

Yes that is her!

The Amanos have been a great MOB supporter as Mike says!

I've been friends with her dad for ten years. I used to recommend his book TaoLand in Kabuki way back in the day.

Then about five or six years ago we found out that he has an entire beautiful family that likes Powers and Kabuki when his daughters starting coming to our booths in San Diego to get things signed.
We were stunned and conflicted that our old pal had such beautiful offspring.

And I love that photo.
She said it was from a photo shoot where she showed the photographer Skin Deep #3 and wanted to do photos inspired by the Kageko (Kabuki replacement) character.

Cool!

Does this new Diet Pepsi one ring a bell?

Check out the link.

I love his art.
I met him at a cafe in Paris three years ago, and he was lovely.
I've very happy and honored to see this art.

Yes, definitely taken.
Definitely.

Hey Kat!
It is good to see you here again!

Isn't this thread great
Photos of your sis, and stills from both of her Super Bowl commercials!
Even mention of you and your dad!

I'm glad you dropped by to put the icing on the cake

It is going to be great to hang out with you and Mandy and your dad at Wondercon and in San Fran very soon!

Hey board members,
Check out Kat's blog for some great pics of Kat and Mandy.
My favorite is the one of both of them together in which Kat happens to have an NYC MECH shirt and Mandy with the Kabuki shirt!

Hi IVAN Brandon!

Good to see you here too!

And Thornton, thanks so much for the links and photo stills!
You are super!
Props!

I love you Alex!

I just talked to Brian on the phone, and he mentioned what a great show you at together at Seatle.
And he mentioned your conversation.

I wish I could have been at the show. I would have had a great time with you guys.
I'll do it next year if they invite me.

And we will always have Portland!

Andy Lee will be at Megacon.
Please tell him I say hi!

Curious, what kind of things are people looking for or expecting from the current Kabuki story?

I'm fascinated when I see this thing with other artists.
So good to hear that you are interested too.
Thanks for your 2 cents about this stuff.

Re: Q&A:Kabuki questions of all kinds /artbook /new pics

Since Bendis is going to the Paradise comics show this year, there is a good chance I will try to make it.

I think Andy Lee always does this show too, and I've been asked to do it for the last several years and was always too busy.
But Peter Dixon and Paradise seems nice and I've told him I'd try to in the future.

So hopefully this year.

So I'm going to try to do it.

The main reason for me to not try it is that customs was such a pain last time. They held us up for over 2 hours and I had to show them each and every one of my Kabuki comics for them to decide if it was pornograpy or not, and all kinds of stuff like that.

I had to go to a few different places and show the comics over and over and they kept searching our vehicle.

in 2003 I went to Toronto twice, and no problem, but last time they gave me a big hassel about bringing books into the country to the show.

And they threatened to confiscate all my books and art that I was bringing.
And then they wanted to tax me on every piece of art I brought wether I sold it or not.
So I was considering not going anymore.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for mentioning me.

Since Bendis is going, I will look in to trying to attend the con.

And I think Andy Lee is going.

Re: Who is going to Wondercon in San Fran Feb 18-20?
Feb 10, 2005 2:15 am

It is going to be a great show!

New info!

Bendis and I will be signing at tables right next to each other.
The table #s are A1 and A28.
Very easy to find.

There is a possibility that Andy Lee will be showing up too and setting up at our tables.
And Mandy Fujiko Amano from the Super Bowl commercial will be hanging out at my table helping me out.

And Jeff Amano, artist and publisher of Beckett Comics will be around too in case you need his signatures. Kat Amano too

I'll have just about all the original art that you could want, including the Avengers double page I did.
Kabuki Hardcovers, paperbacks, prints, shirts, and more.

Let me know if there is anything else you want me to bring.

See you there!

That's right! Those photos at davidmackguide.com of us having our meeting on the floor at the Beckett booth!
:)

Tell Claire she will be missed.

Ha! It will be good to have you at the con. You are welcome to hang out at the Bendis/Mack tables as much as you want as your home base at the con!

I talked to Andy Lee today. He is in Hawaii visiting his parents right now and he has to go back to Atlanta for a Band thing and then has Megacon in Orlando, so he's figuring out if he can go to Wondercon somewhere in between.

Re: Who is going to Wondercon in San Fran Feb 18-20?
Feb 10, 2005 6:03 am

I will be signing all day, all 3 days (probably a lunch break in the middle).
I imagine Bendis will too when he is not in a panel or some other function or meeting at the con.

I don't drink or know of any board meet up plans, but I imagine if there is a Bendis board meet up at the con hotel that we would stop by some night after dinner for a little bit to say hello!

Yano,
I promise you that they are only asking you that to find out if you are single or not in hopes that they have a chance.

Hi RIck,
I do take photos of my work sometimes.

Ocassionally, I have taken photos of the work in the process so I can put the photos of the stages of the work in the upcoming art book.

Let me know if you have something more specific in mind.

This is also Medical Popcorn formly ultimatehulkeye.  . I guess i was wondering if it just takes practice or something to get a great picture. Alot of your art work for the daredevil covers were "3D" but didn't look hokie when put in 2d on the cover like most "3D" covers i've seen. Just wondering if theres any quick tips for making a picture look good. If its more involved or you have to think about it alot don't worry about.
I see what you mean.
I don't do it the conventional way.
If the page is a little 3D but less than an inch or so from the background board, I just let it be scanned in that way and let the shadows fall where they may.

Or I take photos of things and then collage the photos of the 3D things onto the board and layer it that way.

There are a few tricks like that I just figure out in the process.
I don't have a fixed method for it, but just work it out on a case by case basis.

Much of the 3D stuff is just right on the rest of the board and I just send it in that way. And it is just scanned like that.
