Re: A message for Dave
SAT, 9/11/04, 9:43 a.m. - In Response To: A message for Dave (Mark)

Mr. Mack, I met you briefly at the Toronto Con this past August and had a friend of mine get a personal yet quirky autograph/dedication to a Kabuki book for me. You probably don't remember, but it was very cool of you to write what you did.  Anyhow, I hadn't read Kabuki at that point, but now that I have I must say it's brilliant work. (Even though you're probably sick of hearing that by now lol.) Thanks again.
-Mark
I'm pretty sure I remember which dedication this was!
Thanks a bunch for taking the innitiaitive to read Kabuki, and I appreciate the kind feedback!
And welcome to the messageboard.
I had a great time in Toronto!
Best,
David

Re: I just read all the Kabuki trades...
SAT, 9/11/04, 9:46 a.m. - In Response To: I just read all the Kabuki trades... (Angel)

Hi Angel!
I remember you from Chicago!
Thank you so much for reading Kabuki and for the kind response to my work.
I really appreciate the thought you put into it and I'd like to include it in the letters collumn of an upcoming issue if that is ok.
Welcome to the messageboard!
Warmest regards,
David

Re: Wizard World Texas
SAT, 9/11/04, 9:48 a.m. - In Response To: Wizard World Texas (JonS)
Is David going to be at Wizard World Texas in November?
It was great seeing him there last year but he's not
on the guest list this year (yet) ?
I probably will be there but no 100% confirmed yet.
I'll post here when I know for sure! I'll probably know sometime in October.
Thanks,
DM

Re: I just wanted to say thank you...
SAT, 9/11/04, 9:50 a.m. - In Response To: I just wanted to say thank you... (TheKraken)
...to Mack for being so nice at Dragon*Con. He knew me (or at least pretended to  ) from the Bendis Board and was supercool. He talked with me for awhile and gave me alot of freebies that were much appreciated! I can't wait to read all the Kabuki comics! I was forced to admit I've never read Kabuki (one reason I've never posted here) in spite of enjoying his work on DD and his Alias covers... I picked up Circle of Blood and can't wait to read it.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks on your own forum. I'll be back once I've read the book...

It was great!
I remember you from the Bendis board.
Loved the con. And I saw your cool con pics that you posted on the Bendis board! Thanks for the kind words!

Let me know what you think of the book.
Best,
David

Re: MACK original art
SAT, 9/11/04, 9:53 a.m. - In Response To: MACK original art (FretlessGroove)
Hey all!

This is the first time I've actually posted, but I kinda lurk around here from time to time.

I'm super-geeked cause I bought 2 original pages from DD 51 at Wizard World Chicago. Just took them to get framed on Thursday and I can't wait to see how they turn out!

I had actually looked at the pages at the Motor City con but just wasn't quite mentally prepared to shell out the cash for them. I was _so_ relieved when I saw he still had them at Wizard World! (And Mack gave me a great deal for buying both pieces, by the way. Don't want to make it sound like he's overcharging. They're worth every penny and more!)

Anyway, I guess this is a bit premature, but I'm just sharing my excitement. When I get the final framed pieces I'll try to take some good pics with my digicam and post them here.

Anyone else here own any original Mack pieces?

(I also happen to own Scarab #4, pg 7 by Mack/Mays as well as the awesome two-page spread of Powers #10 pgs 16,17 by Oeming.)

Glad the art arrived to you safely!
Thanks for the words here, and glad you finally started posting on the board!
I'm sure the framing will turn out great.
You have some of my favorite pages from that issue!
Best,
David

Ward,
Great to see you in Toronto again.
I'm really looking forward to the Kabuki piece!

For everyone that hasn't seen it, I presented some of Ward's amazing work in the back of Reflections #4. Check it out!

And he's also sited as an influence and inpiration on the inside front cover of the Meta trade.

David

Hi TIgh,
I remember you and your work from the con in Toronto!
Thank you very much for the kind feedback.
I've very happy to hear that you get something useful from my work.
I intend to print your post in an upcoming issue of the new Kabuki series if that is OK with you.
Keep up the great work! You are very talented.
Kindest regards,
David

Re: Mr. Mack saves Canada
SAT, 9/11/04, 10:05 a.m. - In Response To: Mr. Mack saves Canada (Derek)

Thanks!
It was a great time!
I really like Toronto.
I hope to return next year if my schedule allows.
Best,
DM

Mr. Mack, it was super cool (well, alot cooler then all the people wearing star trek costumes) that you could be at the Canadian Expo. You were definitely the highlight of the show. You're also the most polite and caring for his fans artist that I've ever met. I work with commercial photographers and they consider themselves the center of the universe. Finally, your work is a great inspiration to and influence to the work that I do.

ps. When you weren't at the convention what were you doing when staying in Toronto?

Hey good job! Cool site! *NT*

Hey John,
Great to meet you in Toronto. I had a blast at the con!
Thanks for all the kind words here, and all the great feedback and book reviews on the Bendis board!
Best,
David

Hey!

thanks a lot for coming to the con in T.O....you were definitely the highlight of my weekend there...

i was kind of nervous when i came to your table, so i'm sorry if i seemed like a jerk and/or idiot...

thanks again for the great deal you gave me on the Kabuki books and prints... i can't wait to read all of them.... i'll let you know what i thought about them... and thank you for the DD sketch... i was speechless when i got it...

all 6 prints and the sketch are going to be framed and hang up very nicely on my room's wall...

so, thanks again for coming, i was very glad to have finally met you, and i hope i'm going to see you again at cons in the future...

John

Re: does this usually happen?
WED, 9/15/04, 9:51 p.m. - In Response To: does this usually happen? (savagepanda)
i think i've heard this from a few readers in the past. recently out of no where, a chunk of pages just fell right out of my masks of noh. i never crease the hell out of the pages when i read comics. it just...fell.

i'm a bit sad but it gives me a good excuse to be at David's table instead of attempting to make conversation.

Hi Savage!
You should be able to exchange it at your comic shop for a new one. And the comic shop can get the faulty copy replaced from the source with no loss to them.

If that doesn't work, I will be happy to replace it with a new one myself.
It will give you a great excuse to exhange it for a new one from me in person at my table for free. But you never need an excuse to hang out at my table. You are always welcome!
You can make conversation or just hang out there for any reason without feeling any pressure to make conversation.

It is always a delight to see you

Best!
David

PS. David Thornton, thanks for the quick reply to this! And thanks for all the updates and info on the board!
