TIMONIUM, MD - David Mack's immensely popular Kabuki is going to have a brand new home for a wide range of merchandise... Diamond Select Toys! Action figures, painted orbs, and replicas will be produced based on the title character, Scarab, Ice, and the other popular agents of the Noh and its rival clans.
Kabuki began in 1994 with a book called Kabuki: Fear the Reaper and a limited series called Kabuki: Circle of Blood. In 1997, Image Comics began publishing Kabuki as an ongoing series, one that has been lauded by critics and fans alike for four years straight. Spin magazine wrote, "Kabuki is a dazzling collage of visual media," and the Washington Times reported, "(Kabuki is) David Mack's uniquely disturbed vision."
Mack's insightful vision of government operatives policing Japan's world of business, organized crime, and politics clicked early, distinguishing itself from super-hero books of the time and settling in a niche with fans of titles as diverse as Sin City, Daredevil, and Sandman. Kabuki is a mix of historical mythology, political intrigue, corporate espionage, and familial duty, elegantly told through the haunting lens of a child's fairy tale.
To say that the book has been groundbreaking since its inception is an understatement indeed.
Diamond Select will first create a full-scale replica of Kabuki's sickle, certain to be a heavily sought after commodity for Kabuki's fans.
