FLOATING WORLD COMICS PRESENTS:
ALCHEMY: THE ART OF DAVID MACK
This April First Thursday award-winning comic artist/writer David Mack will present a slide show discussion of his Kabuki comics followed by a Q&A session with fans. This will be a great opportunity to explore the themes of storytelling and creativity in Mack’s work. What started as a crime/espionage comic with Japanese assassins and gangsters has developed an experimental meta-narrative with layered, allegorical philosophies about existence, identity, and the creative process itself. We will also present dozens of original pages from his Kabuki series, acclaimed for merging mixed media and fine art techniques with the comics medium.
LISTING INFORMATION:
WHO: David Mack
WHAT: Art exhibit, slide show discussion, Q&A with the artist
WHEN: Thursday, April 2nd, 6-10 pm

Mack’s work is the subject of the multi-award winning documentary film: The Alchemy of Art: David Mack. The DVD of the film also includes Mack’s work with Visionairies & Voices, which is a studio for artists with disabilities.

David Mack Artwork in Ken Tanaka Art Show |
 |
From Ken Tanaka: |
 |
My upcoming show at Billy Shire Fine Arts will open on April 11th and run through May 2nd. I’ve spent the last few months getting things ready. I’m very excited about the show. I will have the wall in the entry way, and the room on the left. I also will be using the patio space for an installation featuring work from other artists from my videos, like Kozyndan, David Mack (creator of Kabuki), Martha Chan, Dominique Fung, Remi February, Pay Katsuyuki, Mayumi Tanaka, Mari Araki, The Gooch, and others. This video shows me meeting Annie A. from BSFA and how I got the show. I hope to see all of you Daily DuJour readers at the opening.

Daredevil: Brian Michael Bendis Omnibus Review |
 |
From ComicsBulletin.com: |
 |
Before getting stuck into that extended run, however, this omnibus edition goes back a little further than issue #26 - kicking things off with the "Wake Up" storyline that ran in issues #16-19. This Bendis-penned four-parter is illustrated by David Mack, whose distinctive artwork makes good use of watercolour-painted panels and collages (alongside a more traditional style of comics art, courtesy of Joe Quesada) to bring the shifting realities of Bendis's story to life. |
