New Avengers #39 to Feature David Mack Art |
 |
From Newsarama.com's interview with Brian Michael Bendis: |
 |
And then after that, #39 will be a special issue drawn by David Mack, and spotlighting Echo. Her relationship to the Avengers, and the Skrull event is shown very clearly. That’s also the last issue of New Avengers before Secret Invasion hits. So then, we’re back to #40 and #41, when we rewind the clock and show exactly who’s a Skrull, how they’re a Skrull, and how the Skrulls did what they are doing. The timeline is all laid out very clearly. And then, #42 and #43, Alex Maleev will draw two issues that will explain where Nick Fury’s been, what he’s been doing, who he’s been doing it with, what he knew, when he knew it and what he did about it. That story will go all the way back to Secret War. And in all of this Leinil will be drawing Secret Invasion every month. It’s all planned, baby! |

Pre-Comic Book Professional Jobs |
 |
From David Mack: |
 |
When I started making comics, I had a lot of other jobs at the same time. Of all kinds. Eventually I narrowed that down to what I considered "Creative jobs". Which included any kind of design, art or writing, even tutoring, newspaper layout, framing a painters work, and working at a printer printing books.
I kind of used these other jobs as a kind of scaffolding, to bring in some dough while going strong on personal work and comic work. And then I next narrowed that down to just personal creative work and comic book work, publishing etc.
Then I narrowed that down to any comic work. Anything that would be published. Then I narrowed that down to just my own creatored-owned work.
Kind of a pyramid kind of thing, I guess. So by the time the first Kabuki came out, I was able to make a living from it, and I had a little bit of buffer zone from the other stuff. And I had extremely modest needs and a very spartan lifestyle, which was a big help.
But I remember that being a conscious strategy for me to narrow it down in levels that way to get closer and closer to exactly what I wanted to do. So I kind of did it that way all through college, until by the time Kabuki was published I had grown a bit of a readership and was able to make a living on Kabuki solely since then, with the oppertunity to do other projects in between.
I hope that is helpful. |
David Mack Mentioned in Newsarama Interview |

What are your thoughts on this fast track route to Marvel (and other publishers) that a creator could experience as compared to the good old days when the submission process could take longer than an individual’s lifetime?
Marvel Editor John Barber: There’s nothing fast about that track. It’s no different than coming up from small press or smaller publishers. Erik Larsen and Rob Liefeld came in through Megaton. John Byrne did Doomsday +1 before he was at Marvel. Brian Michael Bendis worked on his own comics for a decade before he did Daredevil with David Mack. Mark Millar did Saviour. That’s the way it’s always worked. |

The Mice Templar #2 Sells Out at Diamond. 2nd Printing Coming
Press Release
Since its initial announcement Michael Avon Oeming and Bryan J.L. Glass' fantasy epic, THE MICE TEMPLAR, has received much praise, now resulting in a second sell through at the distribution level.
"We were very grateful when it happened the first time around, but are nearly speechless to have this happen yet again," said series artist and co-creator Michael Avon Oeming. "Bryan and I have years of stories to tell and are thrilled we have the support to make our vision a reality."
Despite a significant overship, THE MICE TEMPLAR #2 sold out within a matter of hours, generating attention that shows no signs of yielding. Since then the reviews have appeared to be unanimous, praising the years of preparation Oeming and Glass put into the series. Due to the continued support, Oeming is providing the second printing with an all-new, fully painted cover.
THE MICE TEMPLAR #2 2nd printing (SEP078106), a 32-page full color comic for $2.99, is currently available for orders and will be in stores December 5th, 2007. |
