That may be a reason why there is a boom in Asperger's and autism spectrum kids in Silicon Valley. It is speculated that a huge number of computer programers and video game makers are Asperger's spectrum.
They are attracted to that, and they have an extremely high skill at it and ability to focus on it. And computers work on logic and reasoning like they do, instead of emotional or fickle bahavior patterns so it is something they can lock into and understand.
And their social realm can be isolated to that environment.
Bill Gates is speculated to be Asperger's spectrum as is Einstein, etc.
A lot of high functioning Asperger's spectrum adults can fine a niche in which they excel.
Outside of that niche or in a mainstreem situation, they may be regarded as odd or eccentric. But within the realm of the skills that they cultivate they can be extremely high performance.
And there are, of course, ranges of this; some people are wired with it in a way that they can cope with and excel, and other people have quite a difficult time dealing with other people in even a limited situation.
My father has a pretty severe case to the effect that he will still talk to a person even if they are asleep as if they are not.
He will talk to them until they fall asleep in front of him and start snoring and it will not register that he is boring the hell out of them and they are nodding off, and then they are snoring and he will keep talking for hours at a sleeping person if you let him.
When I was a kid, he put a plate of food on my chest while I was stone cold sleeping because he decided it was time to eat.
This was 7 am on a weekend.
Needless to say, I rolled over and the food went all over me. And then he became highly offended and he took it as a personal insult and I woke up to him yelling and having a tantrum about it while I was covered in hot food.
Long story, and lots more...
