Mystery Writer Revealed |
 |
On January 8, David Mack stated: "And I'm not mentioning the writer who called me, but he sent me some stuff that I collaged into the art of Kabuki #8 and I gave him an acknowlegment for that in the book." In a post on his Comic Space page, Mr. Mack revealed the name of the mystery writer while promoting the issue, which will be on sale tomorrow at a comic book store near you: |

The new issue out this week. I already recieved mine from the printer.
This issue also has an alternate cover by painter Kent Williams (The Fountain).
Akemi returns...
Dots connect...
and fun abounds
I collaged some things into the art in this issue from gifts that Fight Club writer Chuck Palahniuk sent me. Plus... my new take on the 6-panel grid and new storytelling approaches. And some news in the letters columns.
As well as a page of photos from teaching Tokyo and Osaka classes of Manga students at Japan's School of Communication Arts, signing with David Loyd, Lisa Furukawa playing her Kabuki song in concert and more...
From Marvel's ICON.
Issues 1-7 of KABUKI: The Alchemy can still be reordered from Marvel via Diamond if you missed them. |
David Mack May Appear at CAPE 2007 |
 |
From David Mack: |
 |
There is a VERY good chance that I will be at CAPE [May 5, 2007 in Dallas, Texas] this year.
They were kind enough to ask last year, but I had previous obligations. They invited me this year and we've been discussing it, and I feel pretty good that I'll be able to juggle the schedule to attend CAPE, which I am looking forward to. |
Comixtreme Plugs Kabuki: The Alchemy #8 |
 |
From Craig Reade of Comixtreme.com: |
 |
Kabuki: The Alchemy #8, $2.99, 32 Pages. By David Mack. To call this a comic book is almost insulting. If anything, it is an artistic treat. Traditionally a little light on the story (the artsy tone helps gloss over the story weakness), Mack does things with art that you won't see anywhere else in this format, and it is great. Definitely not for everyone, but if you are the type of person who looks at comics as an art form rather than a leisurely read, you should be getting this title. |
David Mack & Andy Lee Mentioned in Interview |
 |
Below is an excerpt from Comicon.com: |
 |
THE PULSE: I think it's cool that you have some of the biggest Eastern and Western creators working with you on this volume. How did you get David Mack, Andy Lee, Billy Tucci, Junko Mizuno, Yasushi Nirasawa and Simone Legno interested in being a part of Deady: Big in Japan?
Voltaire: For starters I couldn’t begin to imagine a book set in Japan that didn’t include David Mack and Billy Tucci. I know both of those guys and Andy Lee, from shows, so I just dropped them an email and invited them. It’s always a little daunting to ask someone you are a huge fan of if they want to collaborate with you, but as it happens, my philosophy is "the answer is always ‘NO’ until you ask." So I’m not afraid to ask. The worst that can happen is that I’ll end up where I was before I did. |
