David Mack Discusses Previous Jobs
From David Mack:
Worked at McDonald's the day I turned 16. Worked there for one year and was so disgusted I vowed to work for myself from then on.

Freelance from 17 on.
Designed toys and packaging for a company in Hong Kong.
Newspaper strips and art.
Newspaper layout.
Worked as a tutor for English while in college.
Framed and matted paintings for the local painter.

Worked for a printer printing stuff and running the print machines (this was when I was 18 and I got my first paying page rate for a comic book that was published by a small publisher, and I got him in touch with the printer I worked part time for and actually printed and trimmed and stapled the comic that I drew for the publisher; weird - learned a lot).

Painted and drew all kinds of freelance sh*t. Designed toys and packaging.

Writing and drawing comics is way better.

David Mack Documentary DVD available this December

Hewitt, Texas (August 2006) The acclaimed team at Hero Video ProductionsTM proudly announces their latest documentary "The Alchemy of Art: David Mack" - coming this December to comic book shops worldwide. Called "One of the true geniuses of the medium" by Entertainment Weekly, Mack's work expands the possibilities of graphic novels and any other field he explores. David is the creator, author and artist of KABUKI and was also the writer and artist of Daredevil (one of the top ten best selling comics in the United States) from Marvel Comics.

The DVD features the most in-depth interview David Mack has ever done, David's commentary on a full issue of Kabuki, book readings, a look at David at work in his studio and with other artists, and plenty of surprises.

David says, "This is the most intimate and extensive interview and exploration of my work so far. There is a lot of stuff on this DVD I've never shown before."

HVP has released a preview trailer of the DVD at HeroVideoProductions.com and will release additional footage in the weeks ahead, so visit their site periodically to check it out.

Produced by Hero Video Productions' award-winning staff, "The Alchemy of Art: David Mack" is the latest in a series of DVDs produced by Hero Video examining the comic book industry. All three DVDs will be solicited in the October issue of Diamond's Previews magazine. Kabuki: The Alchemy #7 Mentioned at Comixtreme
Below is an excerpt from Craig Reade's On the Shelf this Week column:
Kabuki's real strength lies in the incredible art of David Mack - he has an original style that isn't really seen too often in comics. Mostly because it doesn't lend itself too well to clear artistic storytelling, but people who enjoy this book really aren't in it for an amazing comic story. If you count yourself as a comic art fan, this is a title you should be getting.

Newsarama & Comic Muse Plug Kabuki & Powers Daily
Thanks to Tim Daniel, who manages the Powers and Kabuki Daily sections at Newsarama.com, for reporting that the comic news site as well as comic retailer Muse Comics and Games spotlighted the two strips.
