Re: Kabuki film?
TUE, 5/27/03, 4:18 a.m. - In Response To: Kabuki film? (alpha_numeric)
So, unfortuantely, I've been away from the MACK new lately,
and was wondering if there was any update on a Kabuki film coming our way.
Speaking of news, what are some comic-related projects coming our way in
2003 from the Mack man?
CHEERS!

Hi Derek,
Thanks for looking forward to my new books (Kabuki, Echo/DD, and the
self portrait project).
Because of confidentiality clauses, I am not able to give you any inside
scoop on the Kabuki film stuff. Kabuki is currently under option and developement at Fox. All I'm able to say is in what context I have worked for them on the project.
Besides Writing the Treatment, I also have been working as VIsual Designer, Creative Consultant and Co Producer.
When I am able to say more, I will. Thanks for the kind regards,
Best,
David
Re: Wizard Phily Con and other cons...
TUE, 5/27/03, 4:28 a.m. - In Response To: Philly? (Estlin)
Hey David,
Are you going to be in Philly this year for Wizard World East next
week May 31- June 1?
Any other boarders going?
I'll be there Saturday.
Estlin
I'm sure you will have a great time. I know Mike Oeming and Andy Lee are
going, I'd like to go, but I will not be there this year. Because I am
so busy with work right now, I"m going to not be making very many public
appearances.
My next convention will be the HEROES CON in Charlotte NC.
I will also be at SAN DIEGO, The Wizard CHICAGO CON, Dragon Con in
Atlanta, Mid Ohio Con In November, The Pop Culture Con in CINCINNATI in
OCTOBER (this con will be timed in conjunction with a gallery show of my
work at the University I graduated from. My gallery show is about 10 minutes
drive from the con and will feature a seminar that I will do with the work.
Check out the appearances part on this site for more details.
For those interested, I will also be the Speaker at the Commencement
graduation ceremony on June 5 at the School I graduated from.
Let me know if you have any questions about any of these appearances.

Guess when you put it that way...
Still, Scarab has a lot of potential, dead or alive...
maybe in fan fiction...? ~_^
Ken Blackwell
Hi Ken,
I really appreciate everyone's personal interpretation of the work.
I don't want to tell you which way to interpret the story. Interpret
it the way that you would prefer to. Wether you read it as her dying or
not, that would have been Keiko's last job as Scarab.
So either way there was not going to be any future Keiko as Scarab.
My idea for that series was to document Keiko's very first job as Scarab
and her very last job as Scarab.
There is still years of her lifetime as Scarab between those points that are fertile ground for other stories that I intend to chronicle.
And either way, Keiko had outgrown her role as Scarab and decided to move on. So there will naturally be another individual who will replace her as Scarab, so there are also those stories to chronicle. So both paths are full of promise and possibility.
And of course Metamorphosis and Scarab were experiments in point of
view. The protagonist in one can be viewed as the antagonist in the other
and vice versa. With each story causing ripples of consequence in the other.
You'll continue to see the effects of those ripples in future Scarab
and Kabuki stories.
Best,
David
This is getting ridiculous
TUE, 5/27/03, 5:22 p.m. - Rick Mays and Adam Warren just sent me this.
Go to the below addess. More coincidence?
Yo:
Certainly, a few of the character names in this
movie seem familiar... Well, whatever.

Question for all- about a gallery show I'm having-
TUE, 5/27/03, 10:34 p.m.
I'm having a gallery show in October at the main art gallery of the
University that I graduated from.
I'll be including lots of original arwork from the Kabuki books and probably some from my DD and Echo stories. As well as other paintings, drawings and the actual kabuki books.
I've been considering a title for the show and I have many possibilites. But for a fresh perspective, I thought I would ask for suggestions for my gallery show from the Kabuki readers on this board.
Please feel free to brainstorm and list anything that you think is appropriate and accessable as a title for the show.
Thanks! Don't be shy!
Just looking for some objective opinions.

You're a worse tease than that bald Bendis guy. Ah well,
I completely understand needed to stay on the downlow about the movie details.
I suppose as long as there is something going on, then it is a step in
the proverbial right direction. Can you at least say if it is (would be)
an animated film, or live action? As for your books, you need to give me
some dates to look forward to (or at least estimations). Anywho, thanks
for righting back, it still makes me giddy to this day that we are in an
era where the comic creator and fan can communicate directly, even if it
is via a message board. I still geek out nevertheless. Best of continued
luck, can't wait for some more great work from you.
Thanks Derek,
It is currently being developed as live action. A few years back it was being developed as animation when it was at a different division of Fox. It has been a very interesting process. Tons of good, ridiculous and insane experiences with the film world. You have no idea how much time this stuff can take up. I'm going to have to write a book about my experiences in the development of it. I've dealt with brilliant people and idiots.
As a matter of fact today was a crazy film day. One of those days when you have hours of conference calls and then follow up calls from producers to lawyers to executives etc.
Comics are way more fun as far as the machinery of the buisines vs art goes.
As for comics I'm doing and schedules: My five issue Echo story in the
DD series starts in September and is monthly. I'm planning for the new Kabuki series to be released while the Echo/DD story is coming out.
Thanks for looking forward to my work.
I know everyone is looking forward to the Kabuki series (as I am too!) but I think you will also get a kick out of the Echo story. I'm writing and doing art. and really trying to explore the character. It is NOT a superhero story and it has a few surprises.
