Kabuki jam-site
Jul 01, 2004 7:33 am
I don't know if someone has already posted this, but people from my
Kabuki message board have begun thier own idea of making an experimental
jam sequence, where members take turns doing panels or a sequence of panels
of various artstyles based on thier interpretations of Kabuki.
Here is the site that they present it on...

Upcoming Kabuki letters collumn
Jul 01, 2004 7:38 am
Since there is a lot of recent threads on letter collumns, I'll mention
that Kabuki always has a hearty letters collumn and your letters are welcome.
I have large pool of great letters from all kinds of demographics and
view points and from all over the world. Many refer to the Echo story,
Daredevil, various Kabuki trades and stories old and new, about writing
and art and even some very personal subject matter.
So feel welcome to comment on any of this. I'll be printing DD, Alias and Echo responses as well as Kabuki stuff in the upcoming letters.

For reg mail can send to address in the Kabuki letters collumn:
13 Boone St
Bromely, KY 41016
Or if computor is easier, can post on my message baord, e-mail at or post a letters thread here if need be, and I'll cut and paste.
Any of those should work.

Hey, glad you liked it.
Thanks for the kind words. Sorry for waking your wife
If you liked Skin Deep, you are going to LOVE the next volume: METAMORPHOSIS.
It continues with all the good stuff started in Skin Deep. But Meta
has all the payoffs to the things Skin Deep sets up. The Akemi thing, and tons the answer to many other mysteries.
And the new series this month starts right where Metamorphosis leaves off.
So please read Meta before you start the new series from Marvel ICON.
I'd have to say that so far, Metamorphosis is provobly the best example of my work in comics as both writer and artist.
Please let me know what you think about it.
Best,
David

I think it defies genre classification.
I suppose you could call the first volume a crime story, since it deals
with the Japanese crime world. But you could also call it an espionage
story. Or a ghost story. Or maybe even Sci-fi. But in the way that George
Orwell's 1984 would be sci-fi. Or a children's book. But in the way Alice
in Wonderland is a children's book that actually has socio-political satire
encryted in it.
There is an afterword in the first volume by Takeshi Hattori that goes
into this from a Japanese perspective. The various ways the story could
be viewed. The way it includes or overlaps into other genres but cannot
be encapsolated in any of them.
I leave that kind of personal interpretation to the reader.
July Kabuki Release date, San Diego,
and Kabuki trades...
Jul 02, 2004 8:06 pm
Hey all,
I just got off the phone with my Marvel contact for the new Kabuki issue. It's at the printer and all squared away.
Marvel tells me that the #1 issue will be in stores on Wednesday July 21.
That just happens to be the first day of San Diego Con. I will be at
the San Diego con Wed 21 through Sunday. I will be there ALL FIVE DAYS
of the show. So please feel welcome to pick up the new issue at your store
on Wednesday and bring it to the con, and I will be happy to sign your
Kabuki issues. I will sign as many as you bring with NO SIGNING LIMIT.
If you buy my work, what ever you bring from your collection, or pick up
at my table, I will be happy to sign. Even if it is your entire collection
or multiple copies.
Just mention you are from this board and I will also be nice to you
I will also have original art there, a selection of 11x17 prints, Kabuki
back issues, Hardcover collections and paperbacks and more.
If you are looking forward to the new Kabuki series but have not read any of the previous Kabuki trades, you can start right at this series.
But I also hope you will pick up the trades to read in the couple weeks
before the new series begins. I suggest starting with volume 1 KABUKI: Circle of Blood, or Volume 5 KABUKI: Metamorphosis. This new series begins
right where Metamorphosis leaves off, and it will give you some extra depth and contrast for the new series.
Please post your respons to the Kabuki books when you get a chance to read them.
Thanks,
David

Hi Raven,
Congrats on your Image move.
Forgive me, but I haven't yet read the book you gave me in Philly.
I have a great stack of con booty that I intend to go through and am looking
forward to checking out The Gift.
Kabuki #2 to also have Bendis art!
Jul 02, 2004 8:47 pm
Kabuki #1 has some back story behind the M.O.B. crew and out history.
Including how Brian was originally going to draw KABUKI: Circle of Blood.
And it includes some of his Kabuki art from 1993 that I have never ever before published anywhere.
I'm going to continue the tradition and show more of it in Kabuki #2
and #3 as well. I didn't have room for all of it in Kabuki #1.

I'll have a large selection of prints that include Daredevil, Echo,
Alias and Kabuki.
I think we sell them at cons for $10 each or 2 for $15.
You can also see some of these prints at davidmack.net

Cool! I hope you have a great signing.
Atomic Comics are really good people and seem like a great store.
Please tell them that I said hello!

man i remember seeing a pic of bendis' kabuki in wizard ooo... i dont know how long ago and wanted to know where i could buy it...
will the big man be selling any of his stuff since it will see publication
now??
-steven
Steven,
He's not selling any of it. I have it all, and I'm keeping it!
You saw a shot of it in Wizard from their article called "prized possesions" in which creators mention some of the favorite original art that they own.
I have all of the original Bendis Kabuki art!
I probably also mentioned an original Alex Ross Kabuki cover painting. Original Oeming and original Kent williams Kabuki art and some others.
But it looks like this will be the only place to have a bit of the
Bendis Kabuki

If you have not read Torso or seen his art in it you should check it
out.
Jinx is also a great read and cool art. And Torso is what I send Joe
Q when introducing him to Brian's work. So Torso is what is responsible for getting him his first Marvel gig. His first Marvel work happens to be the Daredevil Wake Up story we did together.
Which is also something that is a great read. I just re-read it the
other day and was totally re-impressed by how great his story is.
