Sometime I want to make a museum that displays all the arms and heads missing from the statues in all the other museums. Maybe put the sphinx’s nose there, too.

Carlie Maria Quesada!
TUE, 11/21/00, 3:40 a.m.

I just heard that Joe and Nanci had the baby tonight.
As Bendis said, join us in celebrating two great people who are now three great people. Congrats Joe and Nanci!

Thank you to everyone who posted such kind words here or to me privately. I often wonder if anyone looks at the damn thing other than me.... David, I eagerly await your interpetation of Danielle Steele, America's most undervalued author. :-)

How did you know? Does her influence show in my work?
HA!
Actually,I was thinking of drawing JESUS!

TUE, 11/21/00, 1:43 p.m.

I'm getting the finished [Metamorphosis] books from the printer tomorrow!
That means you should have them in stores next week!

In the last week for my approval, I have recieved a dust jacket that is too big, one that is too dark, today I got one with the right color tone but without the lamination. I have a bound hardcover without the cover embossements and spine type but with all the rest.
Tomorrow I will get the whole thing intact!

Today I put the new dustjacket on the unembossed book and read it all the way through page by page. It feels very nice! Cover good, intro pages good, reads well, and I'm very happy with the whole thing. Actually I would have liked to put some more pages in it, but I had to stop at the 288 count. I think the story pages themselves are at about 250. So every extra 8 page signature is like another $1000 over budget. We solicited at 280, they let me add eight more, and most of this is just so the book has the right pacing and atmosphere for the cover pages, pace in between chapters, intro art pages (which I'm very happy with) , contents pages, intro and afterword. I could have filled it with sketches and stuff, but I wanted to make focus on making sure that the thing read just right with the right melody, pace and atmosphere. I'm very happy that it worked. It reads so much better in this new format.
Let me know what you think.

Looking forward to getting the whole thing tomorrow to check out the embossements and to see the dust jacket with the matte finish. This book feels like a totally different animal than the individual issues did. It is great for me to see it finally together as one big book.

and... my Daredevil covers are in the film
FRI, 11/24/00, 4:39 a.m. - In Response To: Re: UNBREAKABLE (MACK!)

It was cool to spot my artwork in a scene in this movie. It shows at least two Daredevil covers that I painted.

I knew that Samuel Jackson was a big fan of comics and that he reads Kabuki, but it is great to see that Shyamalan is a comics fan and understands the power of the medium and the subtelties and subtexts needed for a movie like this.

Oops. Didn't work. I was trying to cut and paste a Chicago Sun Times review of the film here. Pretty well done review. Go to the Bendis Board and read it. I saw this movie today and LOVED it.

Maybe the best ever movie about the COMIC BOOK medium. Cleverly disguised with subtle and powerful performances across the board. Loved Shyamalan's first movie too and I'm looking forward to a sequel on this one.

Sam Jackson is a Kabuki reader? Huh?.....I knew the man was cool and all.......

So David.....do you get any royalties for having you art in a movie?......;)

Ron

I wish. It's funny, Bendis said something like this too. Anh and I were just about to leave for the movie and Bendis called up having just viewed it and told me that the DD covers were in the film. So I was extra excited to see it.

Besides the made up comics, there are only Marvel books in the movie. The producers may have just asked Marvel to send them certain books for the film.

This has happened to me a couple times when a movie producer wants to have Kabuki books or posters or something in the background of a scene. They just call up, make a request and then send you a contract which states that you let them use it for the film.
