When David Mack was interviewed for the Daredevil DVD documentary "Men Without Fear: Creating Daredevil", he explained that writer Brian Michael Bendis told him to mimic Joe Quesada's style after Marvel's Editor-in-Chief stated that he was unable to complete the artwork for Daredevil #16 (45m:56s).
